I drive 150-200 miles a day for work, have for years, and pass a ton of lots. To entertain myself at long red lights, I’ll kind of glance over and see what they have and if there’s anything I could see myself buying. Used to be even the smallest, shadiest buy here/pay here places would have at least one slightly desirable item on the lot, maybe tucked away in the corner. But, it dawned on me lately that there really just isn’t much out there anymore, I’ll pass 6 or 7 lots in a row with nothing, literally nothing, that’s even the slightest bit interesting.

Weirdly, my local “buy here, pay here” now has a vape shop attached to it. They also have a yellow Gen2 Viper, Hawkeye WRX sedan and an SRT Challenger all out front.

I think the owner is a young guy who got inspired by Hoovie and is using his dealership to leverage his toys. A few months back they had a new Gladiator on the lot that they were selling for about 6k over MSRP. It sold a few days after.
I think he wanted one, but had to justify the costs so he put it on the lot when he wasn’t driving it. Same thing with the SSR he had on the lot and a few other “toys” as their other vehicles are mainly Camry’ s and Civic’ s.

Good used cars are getting pricey, too. I’d like to replace my Cruze at the end of the year and one of the cars Ive been considering is the ‘16-18 Camaro SS. They’ve gone up about 5 grand in the last couple months.

They were nosebleed high before this started, now they’re simply ludicrous. Pretty soon I’ll be able to sell my car for more than I paid for it. It has only theoretically depreciated slightly over 1 k/year over the last 5 years based on current prices, and I’ve seen similar ones listed within a couple grand of what I paid for it new ... The market is insane.

Yeah, its kind of crazy out there. Im tempted to sell my Cruze because its ostensibly worth a few grand at the moment, and rock the Volvo 850 for a while. It should be a servicable beater through the winter, and then I can see if things calm down next spring.

I drive by this lot that has 100 cars crammed in and was shocked to see it 1/2 empty and useable. I always thought the place was some sort of scam as it must take them 1/2 day to get a specific car out.
